Guys, we got SNOW! In the SOUTH!!!! In Charlotte, to be exact. You may or may not know how amazing (and rare) that this is, but it’s a big deal! I really big deal. We were so happy for our magical Southern snow day!
Southern Snow Day in Charlotte
It started snowing on Tuesday. Big, beautiful, fluffy snowflakes falling from the sky. I was like a kid in a candy store. I get just a LITTLE excited about snow. It’s okay though, because my enthusiasm is matched, if not well surpassed, by that of my dogs. All four of them had probably one of the best weeks of their lives this week.
Tuesday, we played in the snow on and off ALL day long. We went out to play in the morning as soon as it started to stick, and it was basically a revolving door all day. Jackets on, jackets off, in, out, in, out. It was perfect.
Boomer just wanted to play fetch (aka keep-away) with her Jolly ball all day.
Ringo just wanted to steal it from her.
And Roxie just wanted to zoom around the yard, endlessly!
Helo even got in on the snow action! Snow brings out his inner pup. Makes him run and play like mad… at least for a little while. He even chomped some snowballs! Made my heart so happy to see this old man having so much fun!
Instead of picking up his toy like a “normal” dog, Ringo needs to dig ALL the way down to the ground before he can pick his toy up. It did nothing to stop this from happening to his nose though… LOL
Walking in a Winter Wonderland…
Then in the afternoon, I took the girls to a little known local park to run and play in the gorgeous Winter Wonderland!
There’s something so magical about walking in fresh snow. So quiet, so peaceful, so serene!
These two ran their little hearts out in the fresh powder.
While constantly keeping an eye out for critters.
And racing up and down the trail as fast as they could!
Oh, and then they spent a good 20 minutes chasing mice in the tall, snowy grasses.
Don’t worry, despite their best efforts, no mice were hurt in the making of this adventure.
But what it was filled with was fun, freedom, and lots of love!
Man I love snow days!
Last one back to the truck is a rotten egg!
By the end of the day, the dogs were exhausted, the floor was littered with boots and jackets, and we were all blissfully happy… eager to get up and do it all again the next day. Stay tuned for more of our snowy adventures!

What a wonderful winter outing in the snow!! How fun for the dogs to get to experience that – and what beautiful photos came of it. Where I live in Southern California, I think it’s snowed maybe once or twice, but it was decades ago!
The dogs were SO excited that we got snow. I may have been just as excited myself. LOL We found some snow hiking a couple of times, but not a lot and not fresh fluffy powder like this! I knew it wouldn’t last long so we went out early to get a snowy hike in too. It would be great if you got a freak snow storm where you are. Probably won’t happen, but you never know! Thanks for reading!
I am in love with all of your beautiful snow photos! We got some down here in Middle GA too, which is a very rare treat for us. The last time it snowed was 5 years ago! Unfortunately, my cats weren’t fans though. They lasted all of 2 minutes out in the yard. Oh well… I had fun playing in it, at least 🙂
Aww thank you so much! I just love the snow so much and the dogs get so into it! It’s hard not to take a million pictures of them when we do get snow. Glad you got some snow by you too, even though the cats weren’t big fans. Our cat wasn’t either. She cried to go out and then ran directly under the nearest object where there was bare ground. LOL. Glad you had fun in the snow at least. It brings out the kid in us, doesn’t it? Especially those of us that almost never get any!
Love your photos! We definitely get snow where I live, sometimes more often than I like 😉
But there is nothing like a fresh snow fall to play in with our dogs until it gets all hard and yucky and icy then it’s no fun anymore.
I grew up in Northeast PA, so I am oh so familiar with getting TOO much snow.. and subsequently hating it. I wouldn’t move back to a place that gets that much snow, but I’d love a few more storms each year. Just watching the dogs play in it makes my whole month! And you’re so right, the crunchy, icy snow is no fun. It doesn’t stick around here long enough for that to happen. It was in the 60s yesterday here.. LOL.

Ringo has me in fits!! Such a cute and a real star 🙂
I can’t believe your snow. We never get any (being temperate) I am glad the dogs love to play in it, they have certainly given me a lot to smile about today!
Aww thank you! Ringo is ALL about the snow. He doesn’t do things halfway either. He goes ALL OUT! His snowy nose is too much, it had me cracking up. We rarely ever get snow either, so this was such a treat. I was 100% sure that the weather man was wrong and we weren’t going to get any! The dogs had so so so much fun. Glad I could share their happy faces and spread some smiles. 🙂
These photos are amazing and so joyful. They make me happy just looking at them – and I live in the Chicago area where we get snow all the time! I especially love the one of Roxie doing zoomies and of course, the one with snow on Ringo’s nose!
Hope the snow sticks around so you guys can keep having more fun!
Thank you! I’m so glad I was able to capture their joy. The dogs were SO excited when they went outside and saw all the snow. I think they (and I) get a little extra giddy than most, since we never get any. It makes you appreciate it to the fullest for sure. It stuck around for one more day here and another day after that in the mountains. You better believe we spent as much time outside as possible those two days. I even worked at night to make it happen. Worth it!

Living in Miami, I understand how rare it is to get snow in certain parts of the country! I would LOVE to see how Edison & Co. react to cold, wet snow. My guess is Edison & Darwin would come right back inside while Galileo & Foster would play for hours! Maybe one day well live someplace where snow is a thing and i can test my theory.
Aww, it would be so awesome to see your pups in the snow. I remember each of my dogs’ first reaction to snow very well. It was so fun to watch them check it out and figure out what to do with this weird white stuff. Boomer was a puppy her first snow and ran around the deck trying to lick every single snowflake as it fell. It was absolutely adorable! And funny… I hope you get a chance to test your theory someday. Maybe a winter road trip is in order!
You have snow? MOUSES! I’m up here in Canada and right now, we have hardly any. Just a few patches here and there. We had lots but it melted. Actually, that has happened a couple times this winter, so far. Gonna get cold again tonight but I’m not sure when we’ll get more snow. Looks way prettier where you live with all that freshly fallen snow. Here, everythin’ is kinda drab. PURRS
We got a pretty good storm (for the South). We got about 6 inches where we live, which is pretty unheard of. It lasted 2 days here in the city and about 3 in the mountains. We managed to squeeze in 3 hikes and lots of playtime in those 3 days! The things you do when you never get snow… LOL. It’s back to brown and drab again now, but it’s okay bc I have about a thousand pictures to reminisce!
I’m glad you got a few good storms. Hopefully it sticks a little longer so you can enjoy it even more soon.
I agree with you there is something so magical about snow, it gives a calmness to the ground. I am not sure how Layla would react as she hates getting her feet wet LOL. We are in San Francisco and no snow here
Snow is just magical. Especially when you don’t have to shovel it! LOL I didn’t know if my dogs would all like snow the first time they saw it, but each and every one of them went CRAZY for it right away. Layla may surprise you!
The photos are gorgeous. I love the splash of color that comes with the outfits. Awesome contrast to the white scenery.
Thank you so much! You’re so sweet. I love bright, happy colored gear. It really does add so much pop, especially in the snow.
Yep. We get snow here in the Northeast. I’m in the NJ Tristate area so snow is familiar to us up here. I love the beautiful snowy shots with you and the dogs. You all had a blast and it shows. I don’t mind the snow and cold however not a fan of ice or driving in it!
Ahh, yes! I actually grew up in NJ and PA, so I am very familiar with super snowy winters. While I love our occasional snow here, I dreaded winter when I lived in the Northeast. Especially the driving! But it only last about 2 days here, so we just stay home and play in it. We have all of like 3 plows in our area anyway, so the city basically shuts down. HA!
I love winter and fresh snow, especially with dogs that love it. My springer used to roll in the snow and make snow angels every time it snowed. We haven’t had much snow in Chicago this year. I’m glad you got to enjoy it in Charlotte!
We LOVE snow! I went my whole life without seeing snow until last year’s winter. We rescued Roxy & Rico in Puerto Rico, so I was really surprised with how well they do with the snow. Roxy doesn’t LOVE LOVE it, but she has fun for awhile before heading in to lay by the fireplace. Rico is a total snow addict and zooms around so fast!
So happy your dogs got to play in the snow! Gusto loves snow and I am glad that I have zero weather clothing so that we can enjoy our walks together. Hope you get to have more fun time in the snow in your area…
I had a great time in the snow in Durham too! Last year I was afraid of snow, but this year…. woo hoooll what fun! Those coats look really cozy too.
So cute!! We have some snow and our dog just loves it! Glad to see your pups out enjoying the snow as well!
So jealous you still have snow! I fear this may be a one time thing for us this winter. The dogs sure made the most of it though! 🙂 Hope you and the dogs enjoy your snow to the fullest!
