We all know that dogs LOVE to chew! I’m always looking for healthy, long lasting chews for my dogs, especially on days when I’m busy in the office and need to get some work done. They get a delicious treat, and I get some quiet time to work… if you can tune out the loud chewing noises from 4 mutts in a small room that is. (It’s an acquired skill!) We recently had the opportunity to try some all-natural lamb horn treats from Icelandic+™ and I’m so excited to tell you all about them!
Power Chewer Approved!
Some of you may not know this, but we are a dog bone-free, antler-free house. Helo, our 11 year old senior Bordador, is a crazy chewer. I mean, I’m sure you can hear him chew from the sidewalk outside our house. He loves to chew so much that he’s a bit too enthusiastic and actually broke one of his teeth on a marrow bone a few years ago. Since then, we are always looking for chews that are strong enough to last, yet not hard enough to risk another trip to the vet. I am THRILLED to say that Helo loves these Icelandic+ lamb horns even more than he did bones or antlers AND I don’t have to worry about his teeth! Similarly to hooves, lamb horns soften from your dog’s saliva as they chew, making them a much safer option for your power chewers. Plus, they don’t smell as bad as hooves either! Whew!
Dental Benefits
Even better than other treats like hooves, ears, or bully sticks, lamb horns actually help brush your dogs’ teeth! The horns are composed of thousands of small hair-like fibers that work to brush away tartar and plaque from your dog’s teeth as they chew. These fibers brush the gum lines, so if your dog’s teeth aren’t normally brushed, you may see a bit of bleeding or irritation at first, much like if you hadn’t flossed in a while. Over time, this will go away as your dog’s dental health improves thanks to Icelandic+, leaving behind whiter whites and healthier gums!
What’s different about Icelandic Lambs?
Iceland is a pure, natural, unspoiled place. A place where crossbreeding is strictly forbidden and their lambs are still very much like the ones that roamed the country since 874. They live much the same way too, which makes my animal-loving heart happy. They’re truly free-range, roaming in open pastures, feeding on natural grasses and moss, drinking from world-renowned clean, mineral-rich Icelandic waters. Not the “free-range” we’re used to here in the US. Plus, there are never any added hormones or antibiotics in their diet!
Why I love Icelandic+
I have a great respect for all living things, which is why I love that Icelandic+ is working with the Icelandic government to help ensure that as much of the lambs raised for food in the country is used as possible. Lamb horns are said to be the oldest dog treat in the world, given to dogs by the vikings over 1100 years ago. But, until Icelandic+, most of these horns were discarded by-product of the lamb industry. Now they are turned into sustainable, delicious treats for dogs everywhere!
Not only are the labs raised in a pure, natural way, but the horns are processed that way too. Icelandic+ only uses the most natural, pure Icelandic ingredients in their chews and treats. Their lamb horns are cleaned, boiled, and air dried. That’s it. That’s the whole process. No additives or preservatives, just an all-natural, 100% edible, ethically sourced dog chew. Plus, they meet strict FDA, USDA, EU, and MAST standards and regulations. In addition to ALL of that, they even have an in-house physiologist and nutritionist to ensure their treats are nutritionally appropriate, healthy and safe. Now that’s a treat I can feel good about giving my dogs! They also use the lamb horn marrow that naturally comes out during the cleaning process to make vitamin, mineral and protein-packed treats.
Icelandi+ lamb horns come in small and large, so every pup (even Roxie’s sized ones!) can enjoy the benefits and hours of entertainment ofIcelandic+™ lamb horns! ** Important: As with all dog chews, take the horn away if it becomes small enough to swallow. Always supervise while your dog is enjoying an Icelandic+ Lamb Horn
More Than Just Horns!
Icelandic+ offers more than just premium horns! They also make a variety of natural fish treats, in 4 varieties: Capelin whole fish, Cod fish chips, Cod fish skin rolls and Redfish skin rolls. Our dogs tried the Cod fish skin rolls and they absolutely loved them! I knew they would as soon as I opened the bag (the fishier the better, am I right?). Just like their horns, all that’s in their fish treats is… you guessed it, FISH. Nothing else. I love fish treats because they’re full of Omega-3 fatty acids that promote healthy skin and coat AND because they’re one-ingredient treats, they’re also great for dogs with sensitive stomachs! The fish are caught daily from the cold Icelandic waters, never frozen, just cleaned and dried. They’re 100% natural, 100% edible and digestible.
We are huge fans of Icelandic+ and know you will be too!

I’ve given my dog antlers in the past, but the fact that the lamb horns would actually “brush” his teeth is a huge bonus, as Soldier doesn’t like getting his teeth brushed and has already had a professional cleaning and had two teeth pulled. If he likes these even half as much as your dogs do, it will be a definite win.
I would definitely recommend trying them with your dogs if they like to chew! Our pack goes crazy for these things, and I love knowing that they’re cleaning their teeth while they chew away 🙂
I wondered about horns as dog chews, I wasn’t sure if they were safe. Thanks for this detailed review, I would definitely buy these for my Husky, Icy, she is such a power chewer! I love the back story of this company and the product, the more natural the better for us.
Love & Biscuits,
Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them
I am more than happy to help spread the word about Icelandic+ Lamb Horns! Our pack just loves them and it makes me feel SO good knowing that I don’t have to worry about Helo breaking a tooth again. Knowing where the horns come from and how pure they are make it easy to feel good about giving them to our dogs too. Let me know what you think if you end up trying them!
Our two dogs love to chew, I am always on the look out for new, safe and natural chews. I am going to see if I can find these in the UK! Iceland is on my bucket list to visit, it is a special country.
If you can, I highly recommend trying them! Our dogs love to chew too, so I know what it’s like always looking for the best chew options out there. Iceland is on my list too! I want to go so badly. It’s simply stunning.
I’m always looking for new chew items for my pups! I usually have Benebones, antlers, and raw around the house, so these sound amazing!
They really are pretty awesome! We do hooves, ears, bully sticks, and raw (but only poultry bones). Helo’s crazy chewing ways make bones and antlers a huge liability in our house, so these are a very welcome addition to our chew options!
Definitely need to try out these lamb horns for Babu since these appear to be tasty dental chews. Thank you for the recommendation!
Absolutely! I bet Babu would love them. Our dogs sure do!
I have given Layla antlers in the past and she was not interested so am wondering about these, as they look great. Layla mainly chews on bully sticks and her teeth are pearly white. Great post
Boy do I have some power chewers in my house. These sound like a great option and I love that they soften!
Chipped teeth are not good! Our mainstays are bully sticks and trachea chews. Haven’t seen horns around here locally.
I can see why dogs (and their parents!) would like these. Your dogs look like they’re really enjoying them. This is a great, detailed review that will be helpful for dog parents.
Interesting. Never seen these anywhere. I know that our guys love shaved off horse hooves and sheep hoves.
I bet my dogs would love these! How long do they last with your dogs? I haven’t ever been to Iceland, but I really want to go, all that unspoiled natural beauty!
I like the idea that these horns also help brush dog’s teeth!
It’s so interesting to learn about Icelandic+ horns. I didn’t know that they would help “brush” your dog’s teeth! What a great benefit! We brush Happy-Go-Doodle Chloe’s teeth, but we’re always looking for safe products that aren’t so tough that she could break her teeth, but will help clean them. Thanks for such an informative post!
What a terrific review! I really want to try these with Sulley and Junior. I always worry about bones and chews being too small for them and, thus, posing a choking hazard, but these looks pretty big. The fish treats I know would be a huge hit here too!
Hmm these Icelandic horn chews look like a great product. I can appreciate that they are truly cage free and natural too. Glad your pups loved them too!Looks like they were a hit.
These look like they would last awhile! I have two big dogs who live to chew on toys they shouldn’t and baby bottles. I am definitely putting these on my list of good bones for my dogs!
