Since our DIY Dog Ice Cream Recipe was such a hit with our pack (and our friends), I thought I’d whip up another tasty summer dog treat. Can you tell it’s been too hot to hike during the day lately??? LOL
The initial goal was to make Patriotic Pup Pops in red & blue for the Fourth of July. The blue came out a little more purple than I expected, but oh well. The dogs didn’t seem to mind. That’s what happens sometimes when you rely 100% on the natural colors of the ingredients. I prefer marginally purple Patriotic Pup Pops over artificial coloring any day. I hope you agree!!
Without further ado, I would like to introduce the newest Life With Mutts Summer Dog Recipe…
3 Ingredient DIY Patriotic Pup Pops
All you need for this recipe is:
-
Fresh Strawberries (1 carton)
-
Fresh Blueberries (1 carton)
-
Coconut Milk (4-5 cups, depending on desired consistency)
Makes 8 popsicles or 8 pop cups.

So here’s what you need to do:
Gather Ingredients & Supplies
All you need is a blender and some sort of form for your popsicles. I use a cheaper model Ninja, The Ninja Master Prep, which is only $34.88 on Amazon. It’s inexpensive and it works great. For the forms, you can use small plastic cups, popsicle molds, an ice cube tray, or even paper dixie cups. I did half in disposable plastic cups with lids and the other half in a popsicle mold. You’ll also want a cutting board, a knife to cut the strawberries, and measuring cups.
Once you have everything together, just follow these super simple steps.
Step 1: Combine Strawberries & Coconut Milk
Cut off the “heads” of the strawberries, quarter them & throw them in the blender. To make the popsicles more flavorful and a bit creamier, I opted to add coconut milk instead of water. Depending on how thick you want your mixture to be, add about 1 – 1 1/2 cups of coconut milk to the strawberries and blend until smooth.
I made 4 pops using my popsicle mold and 4 in plastic cups. For each batch, I used half the strawberries and half of the blueberries.
Step 2: Pour into Molds & Freeze
Pour strawberry mixture into your chosen popsicle forms, filling about halfway and stick them in the freezer for about an hour.
Step 3: Combine Blueberries & Coconut Milk
In your blender, combine the carton of blueberries with about 3 cups of coconut milk. Blueberries have a lot less water content than strawberries, so they need a bit more coconut milk to achieve a “pourable” consistency. I started with 2 cups and ended up adding about another cup to get the thickness right.
Step 4: Add Blueberry Mixture to Molds & Freeze
Take your semi-frozen strawberry pops out of the freezer and add the blueberry mixture. Leave a little bit of space at the top to allow room for expansion as they freeze. Cover your cups, add the sticks to the popsicle molds, and freeze for about 2 hours or until solid.
TADA!
Step 5: Serve Patriotic Pup Pops at Your Next BBQ (or just because)

I’ll take that, thank you! LOL

Yummy Summertime Treats!
Oh, and they’re delicious for humans too! (Crazy Dog Mom Alert…)

These look so yummy – both for dog and human consumption. They seem easy to make, too! Which is perfect for me. A recipe I can’t mess up! 🙂 I’m sitting here in 90-degree weather right now and wish I had one of these!
They are definitely yummy! The dogs loved them and so did us humans. I am not much of a cook, so if I can make it, it MUST be easy! 🙂 SO easy that I know I’ll be making them a LOT this summer. It’s in the high 90s here! Go grab some fruit and join in the fun. Keep cool!
Those would be perfect for the fourth! We’re traveling the day of so I don’t think we’re going to make treats but that looks like a great summer recipe.
Yeah popsicles aren’t all that portable. HAHA. Hope you have a great trip on the 4th! We’ll be camping at a dog campground. Woot! Thanks for stopping by!
These are perfect for a hot day! I make these for my dogs and they love them too!
Yeah? That’s awesome! I bet they do. This is the first time I’ve made anything like this and I was interested to see how the dogs liked them. So happy they did 🙂 Thanks for reading!
Great recipes! We make them daily for my pups in the summer, and it’s an awesome form of relief from the nutso Utah heat!
Yeah? That’s awesome! I think we’ll be making them a lot for our pups this summer too. There are so many things you can make popsicles with for dogs. I’m excited to make up all sorts of new recipes to keep them interested! and cool! Thanks for reading

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them
It’s so much easier to convince yourself to go all “DIY” in the kitchen when the end product is something everyone can enjoy, pups included! These were super easy and really delicious. Thanks for reading!
Who could say no to pupsicles? And these are awesome for the whole pack, four-legged or two-legged. Gotta try these one day.
I definitely can NOT say to to popsicles for sure! And neither can our pups!!! Let me know how you all like them if you do try out the recipe 🙂 Thanks for reading!
Heck – good for both dog and human! I made some with mixed berries and a layer of Kiwi the other day. tasty! (AS a Canadian I’ll see about making a red and white version for Canada Day!)
Oooh, kiwi… YUM! I love that idea. Red and white pops sounds perfect for Canada Day! Thanks for reading
As I was reading this post, I was thinking “gosh, I bet these would be good for humans, too”. And then I got to last picture and chuckled as it looks like you had the same idea.
HAHA yup! Definitely good for humans too. I wanted to make some pops that we could all enjoy together. You should totally try them
Easy, healthy, and tasty! Perfect for the July 4th holiday. I would be shocked if Gonzo and Beau didn’t like them, but I think they would also be wonderful for my kids and yours truly!
I bet you and the kids would love them! (the dogs too) 🙂 It’s nice that they aren’t super sugary like a lot of store brand popsicles. We’re excited to make another batch for the 4th.
Love this idea, as I am now giving Layla fruit biscuits for treats and trying to introduce more fruits into her diet so am going to try these one of these days and see what she does LOL – thanks for the recipe
Our dogs really loved them and they aren’t huge fruit fans. I think most of the time it’s the texture that they aren’t a huge fan of. Ours love ice cream, so this was a logical next step. I bet Layla would like them, and it’s a fun way to introduce some fruit into her diet for sure. Let us know how she likes them if you do try it!
I make these, but I make them for ME! Ha! Next time I make a batch, I’m going to make a few smaller ones to share with the dogs. Great idea.
That’s awesome! I bet your dogs would really like to share in the popsicle fun! I think I’m going to make some in fun ice cube molds for smaller treats next time too. Thanks for checking out our recipe!
These really do sound delicious. I’ve never tasted coconut milk, but it must be good. I need to share this recipe with my mom for her dog.
I’ve never drank it, but I wanted a dairy free option for lactose-intolerant pups. It’s great in popsicles! I bet your mom AND her dog will love them. They’re great for pups as well as humans! Thanks for reading
